Research and source hierarchy
For factual technical and local claims, we prefer municipal, state and federal publications; recognized technical standards and industry guidance; and established educational institutions. Authoritative manufacturer documentation is appropriate for a named product’s instructions or limitations, not evidence that every product or home behaves the same way.
We check what a source actually supports, including its publication date, scope and assumptions. A new-construction detail is not automatically a retrofit specification. Older code references in educational sources are not presented as proof of current local requirements.
Local information needs a local source
We check municipal information against the responsible government’s published material. A mailing city or ZIP does not establish a property’s jurisdiction or a provider’s coverage. Where applicability is uncertain, the guide directs the homeowner to the responsible authority rather than inventing a rule, local condition or price.
We do not create city pages by replacing place names or infer neighborhood soil, flooding, housing history or contractor experience without supporting evidence.
Citations and illustrations
Technical sources are linked near the relevant discussion and/or in a clearly labeled source section. Citations support the stated guidance; they do not imply that the publisher endorses this website. Diagrams and examples illustrate concepts rather than document completed jobs. Any externally sourced image must have a recorded origin and permitted use.
Dates, updates and corrections
New and substantively revised guides should display an accurate publication or update date. Existing dated guides retain their recorded dates; a new footer link does not make an older article newly researched. These trust pages were published September 24, 2026.
